Learn about Winterguard
Winterguard is an ensemble that interprets a piece of music using precision choreography, while incorporating flags and weapons (wooden rifles and dull sabres) into the show's design. Winterguard participates in about 6 competitions (Feb-April) throughout Southern California. The team was coached by Michael Cabrera in 2008. The 2008 year show was set to the music of "I Can See Clearly".

Pledges
Our booster organization, Panther Band Parents, is a nonprofit corporation which helps provide support and funding beyond what the school system provides. Due to the difficulty in raising the large sums of money required to maintain a successful and active program, each student is asked to pay pledges to cover their "fair share" of the program expenses.
All pledges paid to Panther Band Parents are tax deductible
Pledges due will appear on your student account statement. The boosters and student leadership have arranged several current and upcoming fundraising opportunities for students to earn money for their student account. (Check out the Fund Raising page for more details.) Student Account credits may be used to pay current or future pledges.
Instrument & Equipment Pledge
All students enrolled in the Instrumental Music Department are asked to pay an annual $75.00 Materials & Lab Pledge. This pledge is used to offset the cost of maintaining, repairing, and purchasing instruments and equipment. If you have already paid this pledge for the 2007/2008 school year through participation in another ensemble, you do not need to pay it again. (See below for payment coupon and instructions.)
Winterguard Participation Pledge
Participation pledges for the 2007 Winterguard season are $895.00 for each Winterguard member. Pledges cover all regular winterguard program expenses including nutrition and gas mileage. Pledges may be paid all at once, or on a payment schedule. (See below for payment coupons and instructions.)

2007 Winterguard Show - "Modern Mozart"
The 2007 Winterguard performed to a collection of Mozart's classical music entitled
"Modern Mozart" as mixed and choreographed by coach Josh DeGuzman.
The music starts out strong to show Mozart's intensity as an artist. As the music
progresses, Mozart's musical skill and precision as an artist, correspond to the
guards' movements. This piece shows the skill and maturity of the small guard group
with advanced moves such as the 5 & 6 rotations of the sabres (Lynsey,
Melanie) as well as the 4-6 rotations of the rifles (Lynsey, Melanie, Becky).
Each member is highlighted in a solo effort (Lynsey - rifle, saber; Melanie - rifle,
sabre; Becky - rifle, flag; Jennell - flag; Aurora - flag). A smaller size floor mat
was used this year and the choreography utilized all corners of the floor to make our
5 member team seem larger and more powerful in the smaller space. The floor is
painted to look like the 5 lines of a musical staff. The girls can be thought of as
musical notes on paper as they move about.
The show has a Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde feeling of intense and delicate, strong and
weak, harsh and gentle, and aggressive and demure that matches the music with the
girls motions. Complementary colors are used (purple and yellow) for the flags --
a strong purple color matches the intense music at the beginning and a soft yellow
corresponds to the tranquility of the music at the end.
The girls had several 1st place finishes this season, but ended up in 3rd place at
the final competition. They did a fine job for such a small group (5 is the minimum
number allowed to compete in the Winterguard circuit).
Congratulations girls for a very spirited and successful season.

2006 Winterguard Show - "Fugitive"
The 2006 Winterguard performed to the Indigo Girls' ballad entitled
"Fugitive" as choreographed by coach Josh DeGuzman. The song tells of
harboring a fugitive and hiding from one's own feelings. The opening presents burgundy
flags which represent the dark side and struggles of the piece. The girls work together
--Ally and Melanie exchange rifles from a specialized toss; Tiffany, Lynsey and Melanie
perform 6 tosses/spins on the rifle, and Megan, Tiffany, Ally, Erin, and Lynsey use their
sabres to show strength and resiliancy. Becky and Laura complement the show with flag work
and precision. The show illustrates gaining strength within one's self and to show your own
true colors without fear. At the end, the burgundy flags have been replaced with bright
colored flags -- yellow/gold/bronze to show success and confidence.
The NPHS Winterguard started the season poorly (dead last at the first competition), but grew in ability, technique and showmanship to take 1st place in the WGASC championships. Congratulations girls for a well-deserved successful season.

2005 Winterguard Show - "Oceano"
The 2005 Winterguard performed to Josh Groban's lyrical piece entitled
"Oceano" as choregraphed by coach Josh DeGuzman. As the title suggests,
the song is a portrayal of a man's thoughts of the ocean, intertwined with his deep
feelings for a woman. The choreography & style of the show transforms the emotional
themes of this music into
a stunning display of sabres, rifles, vibrant flags, and showmanship.
